REGIONS

Paleokastritsa is the most famous tourist resort of Corfu. This is an area of unique beauty. The main feature is the magnificent sceneries. Endless groves, hills covered with pine trees, rocky shores, indented coastline and coves with sandy beaches, all the beauties of nature join forces and create an earthly paradise. Is it a coincidence that the highest peak of the hills surrounding the area, the castle dominates the Virgin Mary?
The dreamy Paleokastritsa is located on the northwestern side of the island at a distance of 25 km from the city. The site was discovered by the English tourist travelers (writers and artists of the 19th century). It is noteworthy that the English, in the period 1814 - 1864 when the island was under British protection, and built the first road linking the historic monastery town. Until 1950, Paleokastritsa began to develop slowly - slowly its tourist infrastructure, the eponymous abbey was the only building that was now in the busy area.
The Palaiokstritsa is one of the first areas of Corfu attracted naturalists and gained international fame. The impressive thing is that the tourist invasion, both in infrastructure and in traffic, did not alter its natural beauties.
Today in Palaiokaastritsa hotels of all categories that offer comfortable stay to its guests, rooms and organized camping. Also, restaurants serving traditional recipes and international cuisine, cafes and bars for your entertainment and many shops to buy souvenirs and traditional products.
Paleokastritsa owes its fame to the gorgeous beaches. Six bays (Agios Spyridon, Holy Trinity, Saint Peter, Ambelaki, witch and lean) and a picturesque fishing harbor up the grandeur, composed of cliffs, green hills, golden beaches and colorful pebbles and turquoise waters. Feature of these beaches are deep and cold waters. Another reason why it is famous Paleokastritsa is the seabed, who visit every year many divers to explore it. Also a boat in sea caves will fill you with unique pictures.
Do not forget to visit the monastery of Panagia. The Byzantine building was founded in 1228 and rebuilt in the 15th century. It is built on top of a green hill. In the museum of the monastery will see a remarkable collection of Byzantine icons and relics.
The view from the monastery is stunning. You can see Aggelokastro the Byzantine fortress of the 13th century in the village fountain and dominates the hill across from the monastery.
From Paleokastritsa you can visit traditional villages Doukades, Laconia and Fountain.
